Uluru Sacred Pool (Ayres's Rock)
Central Australia

A thousand feet above the desert, this pool fills after rain. The flat desert that is "The Outback" or "Red Center" can be seen at the top of the picture. Note the road, and a tourist bus at the right.

For an idea of scale, note the four people on the rock trail at the top left - click on them to see more closely. You can move the window that opens, and click anywhere on it to put it away.

PHOTO TIPS: Using a setting that gives the best depth of field (small aperture), include details at your feet, as well as a distant horizon. Use a vertical format to give the feel of distance to the horizon. Expose for the detail on the rock.
