Ancient Willows at Mono Lake

Dusk falls around Mono Lake, California. These ancient willows, gnarled sentinels, recall when the lake was full, and birds flourished here.

But now the lake dies, while the water floods California lawns, washes cars, and evaporates in the heat of midday farm watering.
